The Purple Flag was officially raised in Carrick on Shannon at a recent ceremony at the Quays by the McGloin family and Leitrim County Council  Cathaoirleach John McCartin.  Purple Flag status  is the ‘gold standard’ for night time destinations.  A working group of stakeholders, led jointly by  Leitrim Co Council and Carrick on Shannon Chamber , comprising of representatives from the Garda Siochana, accommodation providers, pubs, restaurants, residents, tourism and leisure providers, Carrick Ambassadors,Tidy Towns and the Arts worked tirelessly to gain this internationally recognised accreditation for the town. Carrick on Shannon now joins the group of 17 Irish towns with  Purple Flag status who have demonstrated they are vibrant, welcoming and safe towns with a good mix of venues.
