The Local Enterprise Office Leitrim is part of Ireland’s nationwide network of Local Enterprise Offices – local business support units operated in partnership between the local authority (Leitrim County Council) and national enterprise agencies. It acts as the first point of contact for people looking to start or grow a small business in County Leitrim.

Key things they do:

  • Business advice & information: LEO Leitrim provides personalised guidance on all aspects of starting and running a business – from early planning to day-to-day challenges.

  • Training & mentoring: They run training programmes on topics such as business planning, marketing, sales and financial management, and offer one-to-one mentoring with experienced experts to help business owners build skills and confidence.

  • Financial support: Eligible micro-businesses (typically those with fewer than 10 employees) can access a range of grants and financial supports – such as feasibility study grants, priming or expansion grants, export and innovation supports, and low-cost loans – to help them start, grow or explore new markets.

  • Networking & events: They run enterprise events and networking opportunities, helping local entrepreneurs connect, share ideas and learn from others.

  • Signposting & referrals: The office helps businesses navigate other State supports and agencies (e.g., Revenue, Microfinance Ireland, Department of Social Protection) and creates pathways for high-potential companies to Enterprise Ireland and beyond.

Impact locally:

Through these supports, the LEO network helps create jobs and strengthen the local economy. In 2023, the nationwide LEO network supported many companies and job growth, with a number of roles created in County Leitrim itself as a result of these efforts.
