Roscommon & Leitrim Training Network

Role Skillnet is a training approach to equip individuals with the critical skills needed to make an impact on company performance which will commence in January 2006 lasting two years.

Roscommon and Leitrim have been particularly challenged by the growth of surrounding areas (e.g. the development of Sligo and Longford as major commercial hubs), a lack of access to quality and relevant training provision and a dangerously low level of investment in terms of advancing the local economies. A group of Roscommon and Leitrim based economic development associations and various Chamber of Commerce came together to explore shared concerns and interests.

Development Grant
The Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber made an application to a network development fund called Skillnets and we were successful in securing development support to form a new entity - Role Skillnet. Our initial project consultation has identified that the businesses we represent as support bodies have very distinct needs in terms of training, exacerbated by a lack of training investment to date. Role Skillnet would focus its service on the following four industry sectors - Manufacturing, Services, Retail and Tourism.

The funding received has allowed us to commission a development plan/feasibility study to investigate the feasibility of establishing a multi sector, regionally based industry Skillnets in Roscommon/Leitrim. This study, conducted by Momentum Consulting, will research the potential and sustainability for such a group. Substantial funding may available from Skillnets to progress our plan to implementation. Our application will be submitted by the September 9th deadline. Role Skillnet is delighted to announce that it has been successful in the application process and has been awarded a large training grant.

Full Training Grant
Role Skillnet received word that its application for funding has been successfully approved on Monday the 17th of October 2005. This funding will allow us to provide training for the industries identified in the feasibility study.
