Carrick on Shannon Chamber Holds Meeting With Minister and IDA on MBNA

Carrick on Shannon Chamber and the CEO of Chambers Ireland, Mr Ian Talbot has today (31/8/11) met with Minister Richard Bruton T.D., and with the CEO of the IDA, Mr Barry O’ Leary to discuss efforts to find a new buyer for Bank of America following their exit from the credit card business.

Chamber President, Gerry Faughnan, said “We are very pleased to have had an opportunity to meet with the Minister and the CEO of the IDA, Barry O’Leary.

We stated our firm opinion that all efforts be made to sell the business in its entirety to ensure jobs are preserved in Carrick on Shannon. The business is profitable and we have a highly skilled workforce in an extremely cost competitive base. We’re only an hour and a half from Dublin and Knock International Airport is nearby.

The Minister said that he will ‘leave no stone unturned’ in his efforts to sell the business as a going concern, all options will be examined, and that Barry O’Leary, CEO of the IDA has huge experience to deal with the issue. The minister also stated that he will be meeting with Bank of America in the US in three weeks time”.
